LinkedIn Adds Verification Badge for Company Pages

LinkedIn is taking another step towards enhancing trust on its platform by introducing company page verification, a feature that follows the rollout of verification for individual users last year. This new addition aims to help brands establish greater credibility and trust within the LinkedIn community.

What’s New?

Approved company pages will now display a gray verification tick, indicating that the company has passed LinkedIn’s verification process. This process involves checks for identity and authenticity based on several parameters.

LinkedIn’s Explanation

According to LinkedIn:

We know that authenticity is key to creating meaningful interactions. A verification badge on a LinkedIn Page helps signal to members and customers that this is an official Page for the organization, and in turn, helps the organization build trust with its audience.

The Verification Process

Contrary to what some might expect, the verification process involves LinkedIn confirming the legitimacy of a company page based on the information listed in the app. Key factors include:

  • Accuracy of Data Points: Ensuring the accuracy of details such as location and website URL.
  • Active Admin Presence: Verifying that there are active page administrators.
  • Page Claimed Status: Confirming that the page is claimed and not just a listing.
  • Compliance with LinkedIn Policies: Ensuring the page adheres to LinkedIn’s policies.

Companies can add their pages to the verification waitlist through their “Verification” settings, with LinkedIn approving pages at its discretion.

The Implications

With 58 million company pages on LinkedIn, the verification process will be gradual. This means it might take some time before your company page receives the gray badge, as LinkedIn staff manually review and approve each page.

Is It Valuable?

Absolutely. Any additional verification and confirmation serve as an assurance for users, reinforcing that they are interacting with legitimate company representatives. While the badge itself might not be immediately recognizable to all users, it still signifies a step towards building trust and authenticity on the platform.

How to Check Verification Status

To see if your page is verified, navigate to the “Verification” controls on your company page. Verified pages will display a “Verified” status and a verification date in settings. If your organization doesn’t have access to page verification yet, you can express interest in the feature from your page’s Verification controls settings.

LinkedIn notes that verification badges will begin appearing on a limited number of company pages this month.
